About us
Founded on November 2, 1994, the Ecocitrus Cooperative currently generates direct income for approximately 100 family farmers in the Caí Valley and surrounding areas.
Our cooperative adheres to fair trade principles and has been Fairtrade certified since 2005, ensuring strict compliance with labor and environmental laws.
Our organic production is certified by the Organic Brazil seal. We are the first cooperative in Rio Grande do Sul, with IBD certification since 2000, demonstrating our pioneering role in social and environmental responsibility.
We also hold DEMETER certification seals for biodynamic agriculture, Kosher, SGF, and organic seals from the USA and Europe.
Our operations follow a cooperative model, emphasizing equity, participatory management, democracy, solidarity, and income distribution among members. We serve the domestic market and export to Germany, France, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the United States, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Chile, and other countries.
From agriculture to industry with responsibility
We cultivate approximately 650 hectares of orange, mandarin, tangerine, Sicilian lemon, and Tahiti lime orchards, all 100% organic.
We encourage alternative organic farming practices, such as agroforestry systems, biodynamic agriculture, rural homeopathy, and syntropy. Our technical team closely monitors production, with constant training and updating of agricultural practices.
We have a modern fruit processing plant, 100% certified for the production of organic juices and essential oils, with the capacity to process 15,000 tons of fruit annually. We have cutting-edge technology, a laboratory for real-time analysis, cold storage rooms, and fast and efficient delivery.
We also operate a composting plant, producing organic compost and biofertilizer, which ensure 100% fertilization of our orchards. We recycle organic waste from partner companies throughout Rio Grande do Sul, selling these products to farmers and florists. In addition, we generate biogas, used as energy for our units and also sold to other companies.
Sustainability and innovation: from organic farming to the production of juices and essential oils
1 – The fruits are harvested from our members’ orchards.
2 – The fruits are processed in our facility, resulting in juices, essential oils, and cell pulp.
3 – Unused waste is sent to our composting plant, where it is transformed into compost and biofertilizer.
4 – The compost and biofertilizers are distributed to our members’ properties, promoting fertilization and continued production.
The Ecocitrus Cooperative of Ecological Citrus Growers of Vale do Caí – Ecocitrus was officially founded on November 2, 1994, by 15 founding members. Initially established as an association, the fifteen founders who pioneered this work believed that another type of agriculture was possible in the Vale do Caí region: without pesticides, preserving the health of the planet and of each consumer.
